The Business I Built Gave Me My Life Back

When people ask what I do for a living, the simple answer is that I’m a sugarist.
I remove hair.
I help clients feel confident in their skin.
I run a business.
But the truth is, what I’ve built through sugaring has given me something far greater than a career.
It gave me my life back.
It Started With a Dream
Like many entrepreneurs, I started with a vision and a whole lot of uncertainty.
I knew I loved helping people feel good about themselves. I loved the connection, the trust, and the confidence that came from caring for someone’s skin.
What I didn’t know was just how much this business would challenge me—and ultimately shape me.
Three weeks after opening my business, the world shut down due to COVID.
Like many small business owners, I faced uncertainty, fear, and questions I didn’t have answers to.
Would I make it?
Would my business survive?
Could I keep going?
Around that same time, I experienced one of the most difficult losses of my life when my father passed away during my first year in business.
There were moments when it would have been easier to quit.
But I didn’t.
Rebuilding, One Client at a Time
What most people see today is the finished product.
They see the treatment room.
The appointments.
The business.
The brand.
What they don’t see are the countless early mornings, late nights, setbacks, sacrifices, and moments of doubt that happened behind the scenes.
They don’t see the years spent rebuilding.
Client by client.
Appointment by appointment.
Day by day.
There was no overnight success.
Just consistency.
And faith that all the little things would eventually add up to something meaningful.
Freedom Looks Different Than I Thought
When I first started my business, I thought success would look like being fully booked.
A beautiful studio.
A growing client list.
And while those things are wonderful, I’ve realized freedom means something much deeper.
Freedom is being able to take a trip without feeling guilty.
It’s hiking a trail and feeling present.
It’s exploring a new city.
Watching a sunrise in a place you’ve never been before.
Meeting people from different walks of life.
Collecting experiences instead of just appointments.
For me, travel has become one of the greatest reminders of why I started.
Every hike, every road trip, every plane ticket reminds me that I didn’t build this business to spend my life working.
I built it to create a life.
What Travel Has Taught Me About Business
One of the reasons I love traveling is because it always teaches me something.
The trail doesn’t care how prepared you think you are.
The mountain doesn’t care how quickly you want to reach the top.
You simply have to keep moving forward.
Business has been the same way.
There were seasons when growth felt slow.
Seasons when I questioned myself.
Seasons when I wondered if all the hard work was worth it.
But just like hiking, progress isn’t always obvious while you’re in the middle of the climb.
Sometimes you don’t realize how far you’ve come until you stop and look back.
The Bigger Picture
Over the years, I’ve realized that sugaring was never just about hair removal.
It’s about trust.
Connection.
Confidence.
Growth.
It’s about creating an experience where someone feels cared for.
It’s about helping people feel comfortable in their own skin.
And for me personally, it’s about what this career has made possible.
Because every appointment, every client, every challenge, and every lesson helped create a life I genuinely love.
A life filled with purpose.
A life filled with freedom.
A life filled with adventure.
A Grateful Heart
There are still goals I want to accomplish.
Places I want to see.
Mountains I want to climb.
Dreams I want to build.
But every time I board a plane, lace up my hiking boots, or experience somewhere new, I’m reminded of how far this journey has brought me.
People often think I remove hair for a living.
The truth is, sugaring gave me something much bigger than that.
It gave me freedom.
Freedom to rebuild after loss.
Freedom to create something of my own.
Freedom to travel, explore, and experience life on my terms.
And for that, I’ll always be grateful.
